# Leçon 12 : The political economy of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

## Description
As part of the series of lessons on the conflict in the Near East organized by Sciences Po from October 2024 to April 2025, **Sami Miaari** (Tel Aviv University, Yale University) gave the twelfth and last lecture entitled "The political economy of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict".

**Sami Miaari** is a professor of economy and senior researcher at the Department of Labor Studies at Tel Aviv University. His researches have focused on labour economics, political economy and the economic costs of political conflict, especially regarding the causes and consequences of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on individuals regarding employment, migration, health, fertility and education. His researches have won several prestigious awards such as the “Best Paper Award” from the Middle East Economic Association in 2016, the prestigious Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships Award for 2017, and a Ma’of grant from the Council for Higher Learning in Israel in 2012. 

**Sami Miaari** is currently a Visiting Associate Professor at Yale University. He had previously been a Visiting Fellow Researcher at the University of Oxford and at the European University Institute (EUI). Beyond academia, Sami Miaari has also worked as a consultant on issues related to conflict, trade, and development for World Bank, IMF, USAID, and DFID. He founded in 2012 the Arab Economic Forum, a non-profit research institution dedicated to improving the socioeconomic status of Arabs in Israel, and served as a Program Director on Israeli-Palestinian Relations at the Israel Institute for Democracy from 2013 to 2016.
