## Description
**For the last Grand Conférence of this academic year, Sciences Po are welcoming the co-recipient of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize – Nadia Murad**.

**Nadia Murad** was born and raised a Yezidi in the small village Kocho in northern Iraq.

At her 21 years old, ISIS militants attacked her community on 3 August 2014. They killed hundreds of Yazidi men. Murad’s mother and six of her nine brothers were executed. ISIS militants abducted her with around 6,800 other women and children. Murad was held as a sex slave: raped, beaten, and tortured for several months before managing to escape.

After her captivity, she chose to use her voice for speaking about the atrocities committed against the Yazidi people. She became a powerful voice for survivors of genocide and sexual violence.

In 2016, she was appointed as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking.

In 2018, Nadia Murad was co-awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, as she is a leading advocate for the end of use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.

She published in 2018 her memoir _[The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State at Fayard Edition](https://www.librairie-sciencespo.fr/ebook/9780349009766-the-last-girl-jenna-krajeski-nadia-murad/)_.

Nowadays, Nadia Murad continues to defend the survivors and work on rebuilding communities affected by conflict, especially in Iraq.

The Grande Conférence will be moderated by **Jeremy Perelman**, Vice-President for International Affairs, Sciences Po.

The conference will be held in English.
