# Leçon 11 : The Gulf monarchies and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

## Description
As part of the series of lectures on the conflict in the Middle East organized by Sciences Po from October 2024 to April 2025, [**Laurence Louër**](https://www.sciencespo.fr/ceri/fr/users/laurencelouer), Associate Professor at Sciences Po and Deputy Scientific Director of the Centre for International Studies (CERI), gave the eleventh lecture of the series entitled 'The Gulf Monarchies and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict' on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

[**Laurence Louër**](https://www.sciencespo.fr/ceri/fr/users/laurencelouer) is Associate Professor at Sciences Po and Deputy Scientific Director of the Centre for International Studies (CERI). 

Between 2006 and 2016, she was the editor-in-chief of the journal _Critique Internationale_ and has been a member of the editorial board of _Arabian Humanities_ since 2013. From 2004 to 2009, she served as a permanent consultant at the Centre for Analysis, Forecasting, and Strategy of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. She also chaired the Scientific Council of the Egypt, Sudan, and Arabian Peninsula division of UMIFRE from 2013 to 2017.

Between 2017 and 2020, she co-directed the dual master’s programme on the Middle East at Inalco-Sciences Po, and since 2021, she has co-led the Comparative Politics major in the Sciences Po master's degree in political science. 

Among her major publications are _To Be an Arab in Israel_ (Hurst/Columbia University Press, 2007), _Sunnis and Shi’a: A Political History_ (Princeton University Press, 2020), _Shiism and Politics in the Middle East_ (Hurst/Columbia University Press, 2012), and _Transnational Shia Politics: Religious and Political Networks in the Gulf_ (Hurst/Columbia University Press, 2008).

Her work covers several thematical field. She initially worked on the relations between states and minorities in the Middle East (Israel and the Gulf states) and is now working on labor and the political order in the Gulf, exploring how labor market reforms transform relations between state, labor and capital.
